Houston real estate facts:

Houston, located in Harris County, is the largest city in Texas and fourth largest in the U.S. with 2.2 million inhabitants. Houston became a city in 1837. Two real estate developers from New York City, the Allen brothers, named the city after General Sam Houston.

Houston's economy is based in the energy (oil, natural gas, wind), manufacturing, aeronautics, transportation, and health care sectors. Virtually all the major oil companies have offices in town. Only New York City is home to more Fortune 500 headquarters. The internationally-renowned Texas Medical Center contains the world's largest concentration of research and healthcare institutions. The Port of Houston ranks first in the United States in international tonnage and second in total cargo tonnage handled. Houston was selected a beta world city by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network.

The city's multicultural population lives either inside or outside "The Loop", Interstate 610. The pedestrian friendly Montrose is a hip neighborhood inside the Loop with mansions and bungalows with wide porches on tree lined streets. A sprawling city without a single central business district means residents work in multiple districts throughout the city including Downtown, Uptown, Texas Medical Center, Midtown, Greenway Plaza, Energy Corridor, Westchase, and Greenspoint. There is a vibrant Theater District and Museum District.
